Wheathampstead River Lee habitat works

Rob Mungoven, WTT Conservation Officer for the east of England has been assisting the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust to deliver new habitat for the River Lee at Wheathampstead.
3 days of hard work with 15 volunteers has seen 30m of new water vole habitat created along the bank, with a brushwood ledge providing a refuge for trout and chub as well as a colourful frontage to the site. Small projects like these are really good for training volunteers in simple techniques which benefit wildlife in the river and on the banks.

And a brown trout was seen chasing off chub!
