It’s a lucky month for three aspiring fly fishers, as we award the winners of our ladies’ fishing prize draw! Thanks to the generous support of a Wild Trout Trust donor, we’re able to introduce three newcomers to the sport this year: Isabella Allen, Judith King, and Sally Pereira.
Our winners will each receive a day of fishing on the beautiful River Calder in West Yorkshire, with expert tuition from guide and fly tyer Phillippa Hake. They will also take home a box of Phillippa’s handmade flies, as well as £200 for their travel and accommodation.
This prize draw began as a Lot in our 2023 auction, when our donor kindly decided to give away a fishing experience that he had successfully bid for. Since then, he has expanded his support to enable three winners to learn about fly fishing while unwinding in peaceful surroundings.
This opportunity is offered in memory of Group Captain John Grindon CVO DSO AFC, who served as a bomber pilot in the Second World War and later commanded the Queen’s Flight, and was the father of our Trust & Data Manager Christina Bryant.
We wish Isabella, Judith, and Sally a lovely day by the river in Phillippa’s company. If you missed your chance to enter this time, look out for news about the next prize draw in early 2027, when we’ll once again have three ladies’ fishing days up for grabs. Thank you again to our donor for making this opportunity possible.
