Grayling Weekend raises £1,160 for the Wild Trout Trust

Several of our members gathered in Derbyshire this October, for a special weekend of grayling fishing. They explored the Rivers Wye and Derwent, with guidance from our brilliant Conservation Officer, Tim Jacklin. After great successes on the riverbank, they were treated to a curry supper in good company.

This weekend was donated by the Haddon Estate, and their generosity enabled us to raise £1,160. These greatly appreciated funds will support our work to protect wild trout and the rivers they call home. We hold many special events for our members, so if you’d like to join us, why not check out our membership options?

Roger, one of the attendees, shared these kind words: Thank you all for organising a great weekend. A definite first for me and one to cross off the bucket list. I also met some like minded anglers from all over the country – it’s always good to gain more information about the river.”

Tim Jacklin also had a wonderful time, saying: The weekend was very enjoyable and it was good to meet such a friendly and enthusiastic bunch of our members. It was a lovely, settled autumn day on Saturday and despite the poor forecast the rain held off on Sunday until after lunch. The fishing was challenging – plenty of rises to needle flies and the odd Large Dark Olive, but the low, clear water demanded precise presentation! We met for the now traditional curry in the excellent Rajas of Bakewell on the Saturday evening, to dissect the day’s results and ponder the prospects for Sunday. I’m already looking forward to next year!”
