Derbyshire partnership project wins Global Sustainability Award

After being nominated for this year’s UK River Prize, and winning a Footprint Award, one of our partnership projects has been recognised by another prestigious initiative: the 2026 Global Sustainability Awards. These awards celebrate businesses that demonstrate innovation, leadership, and excellence in the realm of climate action.

Nestlé Waters & Premium Beverages won the Nature Based Solutions Award, in recognition of the company’s commitment to water regeneration. They were awarded for two environmental projects, one of which was their work on the River Ecclesbourne in partnership with ourselves, Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, and the Chatsworth Estate.

Our joint work on the Ecclesbourne tackled two major barriers on the river, making 28km of habitat accessible to migratory fish. After this, and other projects in the catchment (including our removal of Snake Lane Weir), Atlantic salmon spawned in the river’s upper reaches for the first time in a century. We’re delighted that the project has been recognised by the Global Sustainability Awards — many congratulations to Nestlé and the other partners who made it possible.
