3 Fly Challenge at Meon Springs 21/6/2014

The Wild Trout Trust’s 3 Fly, this year to be held at Meon Springs Trout Fishery in Hampshire on 21 June 2014, is a really important fundraising event for us and great fun for the competitors. It’s a truly social day when rods get to fish with only three fly patterns to win points to find an overall champion who could go home with an armful of prizes including a brand new Sage rod.

Here, the 2013 winner, David King, looks happy with his lot:

The money this event raises goes into a memorial fund in memory of Pasco James, a mad-keen angler and river worker who died tragically in 2010 at 22 years of age. We then use that pot of money for projects on the Meon, one of Hampshire’s stunning chalkstreams. This year we plan for that work to take place at East Meon, softening a concrete-lined reach through the village. Previous work on the Meon has included that at Meonstoke and Midlington, making life better for the river’s trout and other wildlife.
